It’s been said that shame dies when stories are told in safe places.

Spoken Wordicine; Let Your Words Be Your Medicine (Poetry Workshop) is a 6-session workshop held live online or in person.

This transformative journey is the excavation of our charged stories, massaged into embodied poetry and shared in safe space around a virtual campfire.

This is a process of connecting, healing, building bridges, boosting confidence and reclaiming the power of your stories in your own words.

No experience necessary.

SCHOOLS, COMPANIES, RETREATS

In Person or Online
Spoken Wordicine 5-6 Session Workshop for Teens or Adults

In a style, format and length adjusted to fit the requirements of in-person groups or in an online setting, together we incorporate a combination of lively games, short video screenings, body movement, breath awareness, discussion around lived experience and pertinent social justice issues. Following a guided process, we explore writing and performance of our own spoken word poetry using tools, tips, techniques and examples of finished pieces to unearth the buried wor(l)ds that are itching to come out. We inspire and invigorate the mind, body and spirit along a comprehensive journey home to Self. We compose and share our original creations from a place of built connection and trust inside a safe container around a live or virtual campfire where we set our stories free and give them wings to fly.

The workshop is a synthesis of the worlds of creative writing, yoga teaching, social justice activism, leadership training and the healing and performance arts in a journey designed to lead participants on a dive deep into the inner experience. I am pleased to offer workshops tailored to the needs of high school and college classrooms, yoga studios, activist gatherings, religious centers, business conferences, programs for at-risk youth, wellness retreats, and more. The suggested minimum length for this odyssey is three hour- long workshops over the course of three consecutive days, with space in between for solo time to rest and digest.

Cost- 1700$ base fee +850$/class of 5-6 sessions

INDIVIDUALS (Adult)

Online
Spoken Wordicine 6-Week Workshop

THE BASICS:
Six weekly 2-hour labs of learning and practicing tools for sharing our stories in a live virtual community setting. Times and dates are set and sessions are live and interactive.

A DEEPER LOOK:
“Spoken Wordicine” is a lively, fun and profound process whereby we turn inward, massage our stories into poetry and speak them aloud into safe space.
By allowing another to walk a mile in our shoes in an intentional container, we build bridges, lighten the burdens of the past, and reclaim power we may have given away.

Via zoom, we engage:
-group games and activities in pairs
-videos of powerful poetry pieces
-writing tools and techniques for sharpening our skills
-a one-on-one coaching session
-a virtual campfire performance

During the last session, we gather around a virtual campfire of friends and family to share our stories, the way humans have done since the beginning. Each student presents an original (and personal) spoken word piece, having received the necessary guidance to write it. There will be tears and there will be laughter- guaranteed.
Who do we get to be when we accept all the twists and turns in the road that we have travelled? Who do we become when we allow the stories from our journey to be told, seen and given wings to fly?
This is a transformational and liberating process for those who feel the call.

It includes;
-Four 2-hour sessions
-A one-on-one call focussed on your personal writing
-An online collective performance
-If you must miss a session, the video recording will be provided.

About the Founder

“As I speak, So I create” -Etymological meaning of abracadabra

I have had the opportunity to speak my poetry on festival and concert stages around the world. It has been a trip.

This medium has served me so well on so many levels that I devised a program to share the power and potency of poetry. I now have the honor, joy and privilege of working with teens, adults and businesses in exploring the spoken word art form as a means of authentic expression. Together, we excavate stories of our lived experience, massage them into poetry and give them wings to fly inside of a safe container, building bridges and reclaiming power. Spoken Wordicine is a fun, integrative, embodied and transformational journey home to Self.
